MC3 Construction Program

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of construction and extraction occupations is projected to grow 11% from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations, a gain of about 747,600 new jobs. Overall growth in the economy and population will increase demand for new and renovated buildings, roads, and other infrastructure, which will create new jobs in the construction, utilities, and energy sectors.

  • Coastline College's Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) Training Program prepares men and women for gainful employment in various CUES, and this training is designed to launch a progressively rewarding and well-paid career.
  • This 4-week training program includes the basic MC3 curriculum.
  • If a company is sponsoring or requesting company-specific practices/policies be added to the curriculum of a particular training session, participants will be notified at the start of the program.
  • All MC3 training program graduates receive job-placement assistance, including resume writing and interview preparation. Coastline encourages all program participants to report employment changes and career advancement.
  • Our current placement rate is 77%.

MC3 PROGRAM APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

  • You must be able to perform physical labor 8-12 hours daily including walking, standing, carrying, climbing, lifting, digging, working in confined spaces and at all heights, and operating a variety of power and hand tools.
  • You must be able to demonstrate excellent eye-hand coordination, reflexes, and multi-limb dexterity.
  • You must be able to read and interpret instructions.
  • You must be able to pass random/required drug testing (including marijuana) during program enrollment, during the job placement assistance phase, and once employed based on employer's policies.

OCCUPATIONS AND WAGES

The median annual wage* for all construction and extraction occupations was $44,730 in May 2017, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $37,690.

  • Carpenters: $45,170*
  • Construction Equipment Operators: $46,080*
  • Drywall and Ceiling Tile Installers, and Tapers: $43,970*
  • Electricians: $54,110*
  • Hazardous Materials Removal Workers: $41,400*
  • Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters: $52,590*
  • Sheet Metal Workers: $47,990*
  • Solar Photovoltaic Installers: $39,490*
*The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less.

EARN YOUR ASSOCIATE DEGREE

Once gainfully employed, MC3 training program graduates are encouraged to enroll at Coastline College and earn their Associate Degree online or through face-to-face instruction at one of our three campuses. After completion of 6 units of major coursework, additional credit may be awarded for MC3 training program coursework.

MC3 Training Program Graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate hands-on knowledge and skills appropriate for pre-apprenticeship, better-than-entry-level positions within the construction trades.
  • comprehend, appreciate, and support collaboration and the required interrelationship of all crafts on a construction site.
  • perform math calculations with whole numbers and basic fractions and decimals.
  • describe and promote health and safety practices in the workplace, including gender-specific issues and concerns.
  • identify and respond appropriately to hazardous situations.
  • provide employers with certifications as specified from the course.

FUNDING SOURCES FOR QUALIFIED APPLICANTS

  • Qualified applicants may be eligible for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIAO) funds that may cover the cost of the training.
  • A business may offer employment based on the successful completion of a CUES Program and other pre-employment qualifications, and the employer pays your program fee.
  • For applicants who do not qualify for any type of funding, the training cost is $3,975. However, program applicants typically qualify for funding assistance based on a number of factors.
  • U.S. Veterans may qualify for 100% grant-funded assistance or government funding available.
